At least 54 people lost their homes in another shack fire in Cape Town's Taiwan informal settlement on Wednesday.
City of Cape Town's Fire and Rescue services spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, said the call came in at 5:40.
"Eight fire fighting appliances and 33 firefighters were sent to help. The fire was brought under control by 8:00," he said.
Carelse added that at this stage, there were no reports of injuries or deaths.
Cape Town's Disaster Management spokesperson Charlotte Powell said the blaze destroyed 23 homes as it ripped through a part of the Taiwan informal settlement.
She said Sassa was asked to help the affected residents.
This, as a huge storm is expected to hit the Western Cape's southern coast and Cape Town by Wednesday afternoon.
