Pitso Mosimane has admitted he "expected to win" the CAF Champions League upon his arrival at Al Ahly.
The 2016 Champions League winner left Mamelodi Sundowns after leading the side to a domestic treble last season.
He joined an Al Ahly team hell-bent on winning a ninth cup title having last won the competition in 2013 and ending as runners-up in 2017 and 2018.
After guiding the Egyptian giants through the semi-finals, they then saw off rivals Zamalek 2-1 in a tense final, just two months after Mosimane's arrival.
And reflecting on the win, the former SuperSport United and South Africa boss said on KickOff: "The team was already in the semi-finals, so that's why I'm here, I'm here for the Champions League, so I expected to win.
"We have a good team and we're a big team and if I don't believe we can win then why am I here? Not to say I knew we'd win easily because we played a good team."
Mosimane also paid tribute to his opponents, while hinting at his future ambitions.
"They have a good team, they played well, they really gave us a big scare and made us play better in the second half, they were much stronger.
"Let's be honest they were very good, but at the end day it's a cup final and derby and we won the bragging rights, Insh-Allah [God willing] we'll win [the Champions League] again."
