I would like to share with you a positive report on the experience that I had this month with services provided by the Department of Health (Western Cape government).

I had a terrible fall on the tennis court at the Bergvliet Tennis Club, knocking myself unconscious.

The secretary of the Bergvliet Sports Association immediately pushed the panic button to call an ambulance and their professional coach revived me.

A sparklingly clean ambulance, dispatched by the Metro Emergency Medical Service - Western Division, arrived without delay and transported me immediately to the emergency unit of Victoria Hospital.

There I was examined and treated thoroughly. I was given an ECG (electrocardiogram) to make sure that I hadn't suffered a heart attack. They also did a CT-scan of my brain to check that it wasn't bleeding or that I hadn't had a stroke. Also, my lip was stitched up very neatly.

I would just like to praise and commend very highly all the professionals in the whole processing chain. They were absolutely fantastic - punctual, professional, friendly, kind, caring, efficient, expert and so on.

I did not have to wait for hours to be attended to either.

I can't speak more highly of them all. They met my every need.

They are a living embodiment of their vision, mission and core values.

Viva Metro Emergency Medical Service! Viva Victoria Hospital! Viva the Department of Health of the Western Cape!

I thank God every day that I live in the Western Cape.

My heartfelt gratitude goes to each and everyone for a professional job well done.

Congratulations to all involved!
