Cape Town - Cape Town City head coach Benni McCarthy says his side is looking forward to the challenge of facing "the team to beat" Kaizer Chiefs in the Telkom Knockout, on Saturday.

The Citizens will be aiming to end a seven-game winless run when they welcome the Soweto giants to Cape Town Stadium in the last 16 of the Cup competition.

McCarthy said his side, who need no extra motivation in the build-up to facing the current Absa Premiership pace-setters were looking forward to the challenge.

"It's a big occasion for everybody as they're the team to beat," McCarthy said on Wednesday. "I think we'll also take positives from the last game we played them.

"Even though the score-line (2-1 defeat) was against us I think by the way we applied ourselves we've got nothing to fear. I think it will also be great for the teams as it will be two teams that will have a go at each other.

"I think the game also comes at the right time as we'll be able to test ourselves. So hopefully we can put in a good performance for the supporters but not only play good football but get the result.

"We don't want to come out of this contest second-best," McCarthy added.

The 42-year-old admitted that Chiefs would be the favourites heading into the game with Ernst Middendorp's side boasting a 100% record in their last 5 competitive matches.

"Obviously wherever Chiefs go they have the majority of support, but I hope the players can relish the occasion of playing them twice in the space of two months.

"If we can learn from the mistakes we made in the first game and play the way we did in the first half, for the entire 90 minutes this weekend, it'll be an interesting encounter.

"They are the definitely the in-form side after what they did to Mamelodi Sundowns in, what my colleague called, the "Pampers Cup" (Shell Helix Ultra Cup) where they scored four so it makes things a bit tougher for us."

Kick-off is at 15:00.
