Thursday's weather: Heat wave in the west

A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected in places in the west on Thursday.

Temperatures along the coast will be mainly warm, according to the South African Weather Service.

Warnings

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the western, central and south-western parts of the Northern Cape, the Central Karoo, as well as the western and central interior of the Eastern Cape.

A heat wave along the coast of the Northern Cape will persist through to Thursday.

Morning fog is expected over the Highveld of Gauteng. Otherwise, it will be fine and cool, but warm in the north. The expected UVB sunburn index will be very high.

Morning fog is expected in the eastern parts of Mpumalanga. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and cool, but warm in the Lowveld.

Morning fog is expected in the eastern parts of Limpopo. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and cool, but fine in the west.

It will be fine and cool to warm in the North West and the Free State.

The Northern Cape will be fine and warm to hot, but cool in the east. The wind along the coast will be light.

It will be hot in places over the western interior of the Western Cape. Otherwise, it will be fine and warm. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh. The expected UVB sunburn index will be high.

The Eastern Cape is expected to be fine and warm, but hot in places. It will become cloudy overnight. The wind along the coast will be light.

Morning fog is expected over the interior of KwaZulu-Natal. Otherwise, it will be fine and warm, but cool in the southwest. The wind along the coast will be moderate. The expected UVB sunburn index will be high.
