Italian carmaker Fiat has gone further in the completion of its ambitious plan to create a global car manufacturing giant.

Fiat has now finalised its acquisition of Chrysler's assets and has installed its new executive group.

Fiat Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne became CEO of the new Chrysler Group on Wednesday while Chrysler's former vice chairman and president, Jim Press, was named Marchionne's deputy chief executive.

In a memo to employees, Marchionne voiced optimism about the new company's outlook and informed employees that Fiat's technology would be transferred to Chrysler plants in the US over the next few months.
